Will Choui

Montreal, Canada

Will Choui is a furniture designer based in Montreal, Quebec. He graduated from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in 2020 with an MFA in Furniture Design.

His practice was built on a foundation of various fields of studies with a background in photography, music, and fashion. This brought him diverse creative perspectives and, ultimately, shaped his approach to furniture design.

He is not a control freak, but his work is freakishly controlled. Nothing is left to luck or hazard. He uses Platonic solids and universal shapes in combination with clean, slick, sometimes soft, materials to create finite pieces of furniture. Despite this structural and organized approach to design, his work is an ever evolving open-ended journey.

FLUO CABINET

This piece is about stepping out of the shadow. It’s a scream that says: "Can you see me now!?". Social pressure and the fear of being rejected or laughed at is something that kept Choui quiet and shy for most of his young adult life. This project was for him a way to recognize who he really was and to affirm that he would not hide any more.
