Max Funkat

Berlin, Germany
Max Funkat lives and works in Berlin (Germany). He is a student at the University of Arts in Berlin and co-founder of ‚bock studio‘. His work often oscillates between functional furniture design and sculptural individual pieces. Centering his work around the crafting process creates a dialogue between him and the workpiece. Form and material of his objects receive a special space within the process, whereby their sculptural characteristics become the decisive design element of his work.
TWO TWINS
Made of green and black MDF, the initial form of the piece responds to the clean geometric qualities and two-dimensional characteristics of the raw material.
Once the basic form has been decided, work can start to slowly strip back and sculpt the piece-evolving it into its three dimensional body.
Through the final finish the form has been found and thus frozen in place.
