Julian Davíd Studio is an artist duo established in 2018 in Chicago, IL, that now has bi-continental bases.
Existing in the process and driven by the why and how, Julian David Studio work to share their knowledge from experimentation and exploration, and breathe new life into old schools of thought in places that weren’t historically meant for them. Neither parties come from formal training and they chose to see this as a strength rather than hinderance. By combining their preexisting expertise in the fields of painting, fashion, interior design, and the culinary arts, Julian David Studio created a greater well of reference that their ideas benefit greatly from. Their practice is composed of conceptual design and artisanal ingenuity to build a sanctuary out of seating, sculpture and form.

JD01 NOIR

The “JD01 Noir” began as a case study in reductivism, whose epilogue played out to be a single sheet of baltic birched plywood, manipulated into this simplistically congruent chair. Thermal coating is a process that mixes a chemical and catalyst, applied with heat; the two entities will then bind, creating a shell around the surface. Once cured the thermal coated surface becomes impenetrable. The use of this process gives the geometric form an unremitting versatility to exist in and outdoors, as well as the tactility of an orange peel. Its undiluted nature communicates a configured principle with no visible semblance of hardware.
Between its use of black and continuous material, the JD01 Noir establishes a cosmic element akin to universal vastness.

Continuing the design dialogue of its predecessor, “JD02 Noir” was from the same study of reductivism, here the single sheet of baltic birched plywood is elongated in width serving as a two-seater.
